Published by People’s Education Press (PEP) after a three-year painstaking collaboration with Nankai University, Mastering Chinese is a set of Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) textbooks aiming for undergraduate and graduate students as well as non-degree students of all types. The complete set includes 12 titles: Mastering Chinese: Reading and Writing (books 1—6) and Mastering Chinese: Listening and Speaking (books 1—6).
Its main features are as follows: ◆ In a “Function—Setting—Task” CFL teaching approach, it bridges the gap between classroom language learning and real language use through multiple communicative settings, pictures and tasks. ◆ One the one hand, Reading and writing helps forge a solid basis for students; on the other, Listening and Speaking expands students’ language abilities. Together, students will develop comprehensive language competence. ◆ It offers concentrated hands-on practice to go with intensive teaching of the language. ◆ It develops students’ language competence at multiple levels. Aside from the teaching of vocabulary and sentence patterns, it attaches much importance to the teaching of active Chinese morphemes, language chunks and discourse analysis. ◆ It is tailored to meet teachers’ and students’ needs in classroom teaching and learning. It is unfolded at the pace that suits you the best. ◆ As a textbook combo, appropriate and sufficient teaching contents and learning materials are made handy for teachers and students. ◆ It facilitates test preparation for HSK Level 6 and helps students succeed in using Chinese to complete various social and communicative tasks.
